Another beloved Greek Australian, Pavlos Dimotakis, lost the battle with coronavirus at the age of 72.

Mr Dimotakis, of Pavlis and Despina Dimotakis was fighting a Covid-19 infection for the past 2 weeks. Sixteen days after his admission to Austin Hospital his immune system gave up.

He was the youngest of five siblings, Kaliopi, Aggeliki, Elpida and Maria; his four sisters had all emigrated to Australia early on. He lived most of his life beside his parents as a farmer, until they passed.

Due to his medical condition, his sister Kaliopi started a legal battle to repatriate him in Australia so he could have a better quality of life when he was 41.

Mr Dimotakis was a resident at St. Basil’s aged care in Fawkner until his passing. He loved St. Basil’s and he was really proud of his room and things there. He was loved by family and St. Basil’s staff who he also saw as a second family.

It was his dream to visit Crete one last time with his sister Kaliopi, but the pandemic made that impossible.

Pavlos Dimotakis was survived by his sisters and his nephews.
