Liverpool are reportedly ready to make their first signing of the transfer window with a £11.75m ($21.4m AUD) contract ready to go for Olympiacos defender Kostas Tsimikas.

The Reds are waiting on Tsmikas’ medical report before signing off on the four-year deal.

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp was looking for a back-up to Scotsman Andrew Robertson after having to previously rely on James Milner to fill in for the defender.

There had also been talks to get Norwich City defender Jamal Lewis on board, but the two clubs were unable to settle on the fee, with Liverpool’s £10m ($18.2m AUD) bid rejected last week.

After the Lewis bid fell through, the Reds turned their sights onto 24 year-old Tsimikas who recently played at Molineux Stadium last Thursday against Wolverhampton.

Tsimikas made 46 appearances for Olympiacos this season showing some impressive footwork, which put him on Leicester coach Brendan Rodgers’ radar as a possible replacement for defender Ben Chilwell.

Following the announcement that Olympiacos captain Omar Elabdellaoui is leaving on a free due to his contract expiring, Tsimikas will mark the second departure of the Greek team this season.
