Named after the Roman god with two faces, Janus is a Greek turtle who has become a mascot for the Museum of Natural History in Geneva, Switzerland.

Born on 3 September 1997, Janus is a Greek tortoise – a type of turtle that is known for its longevity, usually upwards of 125 years.

His rare condition, however, meant that in the wild he would not have survived for long.

Thanks to the incredible dedication of his caregivers, Janus has survived and thrived to become one of the longest living two-headed Greek turtles. He is quite possibly the oldest two headed turtle, bearing in mind that animals with this innate anomaly usually die young.
