The United States recognises an “urgent need to reduce tensions” in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu about Turkey’s plans to drill of the south-western coast of Cyprus in the Dominican Republic on Sunday, 16 August.

He released a statement regarding the development:

Mr Pompeo did not disclose any other details regarding the meeting.
