On Saturday, Greek health authorities confirmed 264 new coronavirus infections in the country in the last 24 hours.

Of those cases, 29 were recorded at Greece’s entry points.

As of yesterday the number of infections in the country stands at 8,381 and the total number of fatalities has risen to 240 according to the National Organisation for Public Health (EODY).

The EODY daily bulletin listed two more patients that died from Covid-19 with the number of intubated patients going to 31 from 28 on Friday.

On a more positive note, 143 patients have left the ICU.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told CNN that he is hopeful Covid-19 cases in the country will be contained; saying that the increase in number was expected following Greece’s decision to open the borders in its efforts to keep the economy alive.

Greek authorities have conducted 838,015 tests since the start of the pandemic.
