The car accident that resulted in the death of a young man has caused sorrow in the Greek community of Adelaide.

Greek Australian Alex Giannias, 27, died tragically last night on one of Adelaide’s busiest roads.

His car, a high performance black Ford XR6 sedan, crashed and wrapped itself around a tree.

The young man remained trapped inside the wreckage of the car that smashed on a tree on Anzac Highway at around 6.30pm Tuesday, 26 August.

Emergency services, which arrived to the spot, managed to free Mr Giannias and took him to Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition, but the young man was unable to survive and died a short time later.

Mr Giannias’ passenger, a 29-year-old Welland man was also taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.
