After their loss in the semi-finals 2-0 to Sydney FC, Perth Glory will now wave goodbye to their coach Tony Popovic.

According to The World Game the coach that guided Perth Glory to last season’s Premiership, will jet off to Greece as soon as possible to start immediately with Xanthi FC.

This is another change for the Greek football club after recently being bought by President of NPL’s Sydney Olympic Bill Papas.

This will be Popovic’s second overseas coaching gig, after taking on Turkish team Karabukspor in 2017 but was let go after only two months.

Back at Glory headquarters, team owner Tony Sage said in a statement that the move had not been brought to his attention.

“He is contracted for next season and it’s up to him to make a comment if he wishes to break that contract,” Sage said.

It is understood that Popovic was contracted until mid-2021 but may have an exit clause on paper.

The job at Xanthi FC will not be easy with the team on the brink of relegation from the top Greek league.
