For an older generation of Greek migrants in Australia, the sound of Franco Cozzo’s voice is unmistakable.

Late at night, the jovial sound of Mr Cozzo’s voice exclaiming, “Grand sale, grand sale, grand sale. Where? In Brunswick and Footscray” would blast through from the television and in three languages, including Greek – Megalo Pazari!

Now the life of legendary Sicilian Franco Cozzo is becoming a documentary.

The documentary by writer-director Madeleine Martiniello and producer Philippa Campey will follow the story of the 83-year-old’s life, who arrived in Australia penniless in 1956 from Sicily and became a millionaire.

Hundreds of Greeks are estimated to have bought furniture from the ‘Foot-a-scraaay’ store.

Director Madeleine Martiniello wants to get in touch with Greeks who want to share their immigration history and their relationship with furniture to feature in the documentary.
