Cousins Dezi, 41, and Penny, 33, enjoyed an epic win after being crowned Plate of Origin champions on Seven on Tuesday night.

They won a total of $100,000 with a top score of 76/90 after an epic three-course meal showdown with Team Vietnam: Thanh, 31 and Duncan, 30.

When Greece’s Ekmek topped Italy’s Tiramisu there was a monumental culinary scramble for the Grand Final Title between Greece and Vietnam.

Team Greece was able to steal victory with an early lead after serving cooked prawns as opposed to Team Vietnam’s Rice Paper Rolls with Moreton Bay Bug which were found to be undercooked. Though Team Greece lost points in the main meal by not resting their lamb rack which was served with Greek salad (of course) and lemon potatoes.

It was the heavenly galaktoboureko which managed to secure their sweet victory, whereas Team Vietnam was left behind having to remake their pastry. Penny, who owns Miss Penny’s Cakes in West Brunswick made sure she added her ‘magic’ to the traditional Greek dessert.

“Never underestimate a Greek mum,” Dezi exclaimed at the start of the show.

“We have represented the Australian Greek community and now we’ve just won Plate of Origin! It is mind-blowing. I’m so grateful, this is beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of,” Dezi said at the end.

“I just love cooking,” Dezi told Neos Kosmos at the start of the series. “I cook very simple home foods, and when I saw this competition advertised I thought it was a great opportunity. I needed a partner so I thought of Penny. I love doing main meals. Dinner is my favourite time of the day and I know that Penny’s strength is her desserts so I thought we would make a great team. Luckily she said yes!” Dezi also has an Instagram account where she features her cooking, @dezi_cooks.

When asked by judge Matt if Greek cuisine was the best in the world, Penny said: “Of course it is!”
