There were nine new infections and no COVID-19 deaths recorded in Victoria overnight, the second time Victoria has seen a fatal-free day since 13 July. With just a fortnight left before more restrictions are rolled back on 19 October, Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews warned that the 5km travel role may extend to beyond the two weeks if Melburnians continue to flout rules as had been the case over the weekend as the weather warmed up.

Thousands of people were seen crowding together, flouting social distancing rules, at St Kilda Beach and Altona Beach.

“We’ve just got to stay the course on this,” Mr Andrews said.

“We are so, so close — let’s not any of us do anything that might undermine the very positive numbers, the very strong performance we have seen in recent days.

“The numbers are coming down, once we get them low, we can keep them low and we can open up again.”

Concern also surrounded an outbreak at The Butcher Club in Chadstone, a cluster which has now reached 20 cases, including a regional case in the Mitchell Shire. The outbreak came after a Frankston cleaner visited the shop

The 14-day average is now down to just over 11 for Melbourne, with 12 new cases and 1 new death recorded on Sunday.
