Due to coronavirus Greek Australian nurse Eleni Zahou, will not be able to go to Los Angeles to receive two new awards.

For the same reason, the event will not take place.

Ms Zahou was awarded two Stevie Awards; one for her work as a nurse and the other for her non-profit work helping and teaching in disadvantaged countries.

Ms Zahou is the Global Youth Ambassador of Nurses of the World in Action and offers her services voluntarily wherever and however she can.

No matter where in the world, wherever there is someone in pain, Ms Zahou is by their side, running to their aid and even paying from her own pocket.

Ms Zahou is not too bothered by the awards going ahead, telling Neos Kosmos, “the only prize that counts is a smile from the people I have helped”.

Her work has spread far and wide, having spent time in the Philippines, Nepal, Greece, on Nauru and Christmas Island.

Earlier this year she volunteered in Kenya for six weeks and taught other nurses there.

Upon her return to Australia she worked at the Gold Coast University Hospital during the pandemic.

It is worth noting that Eleni Zahou’s family comes from Katerini, but she was born in Darwin and grew up on Groote Island, an hour and a half by plane from the Northern capital and despite living somewhere secluded she still learnt Greek and holds a special place for her motherland in her heart.
