Steve Georganas MP, Member for Adelaide, South Australia, made a statement in Parliament. Below is a transcript of his speech:

I rise today to bring to the attention of the house a verdict announced yesterday by the Court of Athens

The Athens Court verdict deemed the neo-fascist Golden Dawn of being a Criminal Organisation.

This was a landmark decision announced by the presiding judge who said The Golden Dawn Party Leaders were guilty of Leading a criminal organisation.

After the verdict, Amnesty International EU Director said: “This verdict sends a clear message to political groups with aggressive anti-migrant and anti-human right agendas whether they be individuals or members of Parliament that their crimes will not go unpunished.”

The hearings against Golden Dawn which began in April 2015 have been the biggest trials of Neo-Fascist’s since the prosecution of NAZIS at Nuremberg following WW2.

GD Party targeted Migrants, Trade Unionists, members of Gay Communities and progressives, all this led to the stabbing murder of Anti-fascist Music rapper Pavlos Fyssas.

Prior to the trial137 prominent Greek Australians signed a petition including myself condemning the criminal behaviour of Golden Dawn

Today, I will also be writing to the AG Informing him of the verdict and the court decision in Athens and asking what implications this has for the branch of Golden Dawn set up right here in Australia.

Golden Dawn brought shame to all Greeks worldwide, especially Greek migrants here in Australia who have been model citizens here in Australia and every corner of the world.

Extreme politics with extreme anti-human rights view sand anti-migrant actions has no place in our democracy and I welcome the landmark court decision in Athens (on Wednesday).
