In a game packed with action, Richmond Tigers defeated Geelong Cats, claiming a third premiership in four seasons.

It was a tough contest, with the Cats looking to be in charge in the first and second quarters, but the second half was a different story, with Richmond coming from 22 points to defeating Geelong by 31 points (81-50).

The win marks the third AFL flag for RIchmond in four seasons, and its 13th VFL/AFL premiership.

Just under 30,000 fans had the opportunity to see their premiership heroes in the flesh at Brisbane’s Gabba stadium on Saturday night, though Victorians had to watch from home this year.

It is the first time ever that the AFL Grand Final was played outside Melbourne, following an unprecedented season for both teams and supporters shaped by the coronavirus pandemic.

Nevertheless, Richmond fans – amongst them many Greek Australians – found ‘COVID-alternative’ ways to celebrate the landmark win, in absence of the usual big gatherings.

Dozens of businesses and Greek restaurants made Richmond their home, while there was a point in time when the suburb even had not one but three Greek-owned cinemas.
