Greece recorded 1,690 new coronavirus cases on Friday, setting a new negative record for the country. There were 64 cases linked to known clusters of infection and 35 were identified at entry points to the country, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said.

There are currently 128 individuals intubated, their median age is 65 years. 92.2 per cent have underlying conditions or are 70 years or over in age.

Greece is set to impose regional lockdowns in Thessaloniki and two other regions from Friday in order to contain the numbers.

Despite the spike in cases, Greece still has significantly lower numbers than other countries in Europe and was doing well until numbers started rising in early October. The rise in COVID-19 cases also comes when testing has also increased.
