Greece prepares for another lockdown, while daily new coronavirus cases climbed over 1,000 last week.

This will be the country’s second shut down since May, seeing restaurants, bars, cafes, cinemas and gyms in Covid-19 hotspots lock their doors for punters for the entirety of November.

Venues in Athens and Northern Greece where more cases have been recorded will only be allowed to offer deliveries and takeaway.

Retail shops will remain open, universities will hold classes remotely and travel within the country will be allowed.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that the new restrictions will be effective as of Tuesday morning in a televised press conference.

The new measures will see masks become mandatory everywhere with a curfew from midnight to 5 a.m.

University classes across the country will be attended remotely.

According to the country’s authorities Saturday saw 2,056 new cases and 6 deaths while 135 patients are on ventilators.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Greece at the moment is 39,251, with 626 deaths.
