Victoria’s mandatory mask policy is expected to be eased on Sunday as the state notes more consecutive days with zero cases.

Premier Daniel Andrews flagged possible changes to the mask rule on Wednesday as the virus-free streak continues. This could mean that people outdoors will no longer be required to wear masks when they are away from others.

“I think on Sunday you’ll see some changes to mask policy,” he said.

Other measures expected to be eased come 11.59pm on Sunday include:

  • The limit for private gatherings at homes will increased to 10 visitors
  • Hospitality caps will be increased to 100 people indoors and 200 outdoors, providing they are able to follow the one person per four square metre rule.
  • Gyms will go to 100 people with a maximum of 20 people in one class
  • Indoor pools will move to 50 people and no caps for outdoors
  • Weddings will be increased to 100 people
  • Cinemas and entertainment places will allow up to 100 people
  • The relief comes as Victoria recorded its 19th consecutive day of zero new coronavirus cases and deaths.
