The famous Tatoi Palace, the Greek royal family’s former summer retreat that later became their permanent residence, is being renovated with the intention to be turned into a museum.

The restoration works which begun amidst the pandemic have unearthed dozens of historical treasures.

According to the Greek Ministry of Culture, hundreds of objects all belonging to the former Royal Family of Greece, have been found on the Tatoi Palace grounds.

The Tatoi estate, which was bought by the Royals in the 1870s, covers an enormous total area of 4,500 hectares and holds several buildings.

Workers have come across a total of seventy suitcases and trunks believed to belong to Frederica, the Queen Consort of Greece from 1947 to 1964, and Queen mother thereafter.

The restoration which is supervised by archaeologists has also unearthed precious royal carriages, many artefacts that are yet to be estimated not to mention dozens of unopened bottles of red wine from the 1950s.
