According to new information, the 40-year-old man that was shot dead in Melbourne’s southeast in what police believe was a targeted attack, was of Greek descent.

Police have confirmed that the man, who was Footscray-based was gunned down in front of his girlfriend during a party at an apartment in Oakleigh last night. Police believe the shooter used a handgun in the deadly attack. Authorities are searching a large quarry behind the apartment block for any signs of the weapon.

“Everyone is known to each other and we’re certainly looking at this as a targeted attack,” Victoria Police Detective Sergeant Simon Quinnell told 9News.

Paramedics tried to save the victim upon arrival, but he died at the scene.
Two people have been taken into custody in relation to the shooting, though no charges have yet been laid. Police say a third person remains on the run.
