Victoria has recorded three new COVID-19 infections in suburban Melbourne, ending the state’s two-month streak of no locally acquired cases.

The new cases are from Mentone, Hallam and Mitcham and were not people in hotel quarantine.

A State Government spokesperson said the cases were believed to be linked to the Sydney outbreak.

The cases include two women in their 40s and a woman in her 70s.

The Department of Health and Human Services says one of the  women in her 40s visited Greek restaurant Katialo in the Eaton Mall at Oakleigh between 7:00pm and 8:15pm on December 28.

The department informed Katialo that at this stage it is not required to take action.

Part of the DHHS notice to Katialo

However, anyone who has visited the locations during the date indicated is advised by DHHS to watch for symptoms of COVID-19 and get tested if symptoms occur.

The department said the locations were visited by confirmed cases, but that does not mean there is an ongoing risk associated with these premises.

Nicole Tsomatska from Katialo told Neos Kosmos that according to the DHHS the customer was in the restaurant for ten minutes to purchase dinner.

She said Katialo is trading as normal, but as a precaution it conducted a deep clean early today as New Year’s Eve event will be going ahead as normal.

Ms Tsomatska also told  Neos Kosmos that management checked their internal cameras between the times specified by DHHS and could not find the customer specified.
