The US Congress has impeached (for the second time) President Trump for inciting a coup against the state. On trial, he will be faced with criminal charges for sedition; abuse of power and he will never be able to run for office again! Such far-reaching indictments against a President of a superpower, re-affirms that Rule of Law in a real democracy it’s held supreme above all others, including presidents!
Compare that to the 1974 military coup against the Republic of Cyprus and one quickly recognizes flawed democracy administrated by Rule of Man and not Rule of Law; not a single perpetrator has been prosecuted for treason against the state! Instead, in the absence of transparency and justice in demand by the Constitution, corruption, nepotism and arrogance soon has grown beyond control.

The recent case of the notorious “Golden Passport” scandal worth billions has humiliated the government internationally. Yet, it stubbornly refuses to hand over hundreds of dubious files to the Auditor General Mr Odysseas Michaelides for investigation and prosecution. They are afraid of exposing prominent names; ministers; corrupt officials and institutions partaken in the programme!
The government has chosen instead to sweep it under the carpet––like always––and protect an endemic corrupt system!
