Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is scheduled to meet with President Barack Obama in Washington next month.

According to a statement released by the White House last week the two leaders will meet on August 8.

The meeting’s agenda includes the issues of Greek US defence cooperation, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, regional cooperation, mutual counterterrorism efforts as well as prospects for a settlement in Cyprus.

The two men will also discuss developments in North Africa and Syria. According to the White House, the visit will “highlight the strength of the US-Greek relationship today – bound together through enduring ties of kinship, common interests, and the NATO Alliance – and underscore the United States’ ongoing support for Greece’s efforts to reform its economy and promote a return to prosperity”.
