The launch of Angela Kiki’s series of painting exhibitions took place on Saturday, 27 February, at the Campbelltown Arts Center. The theme of the exhibition was “Heroes of 1821”.

The event was organised by the 1821-2021 organising committee of Macarthur Greeks. Due to COVID-19 and the measures taken, the event was attended by a limited number of people, always in strict compliance with the guidelines of the health authorities.

The event was attended by Camden Council Mayor Tereza Fedeli, Mayor Robert Khan, Deputy Mayor Michael Banasik of Wollondilly Shire Council, and Campbelltown Mayor George Brticevic, the Director of the Campbelltown Art Center Michael Dagostino and Liana Vertzayas the president to the Hellenic Lyceum Sydney among others. Konstantinos Giannakodimos, Communication Advisor at the Office of Public Diplomacy of the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney was present.

“Today, Angela Kiki reveals another look at the protagonists of the Greek War of Independence,” Mr Giannakodimos said. “The characteristic of Angela’s images is the vitality that emanates from the colors and the expression of the faces. This liveliness transports us to the climate of the time. I believe that Angela’s artistic endeavor is another piece in the large painting called historical memory. So that we do not forget the past and look to the future.”

The whole series of 16 paintings will be presented in Canberra in the Hellenic Club from 20-21 March.
