Queens Park Rangers (QPR) striker Peter Skapetis isn’t showing his allegiance to one country. Rather, the Greek Australian youngster is keeping his options open despite getting calls from Greece and Australia to play nationally.

Young Socceroos coach, Paul Okon has been trying to win the striker’s allegiance but is up against a strong Greek contingent.

At youth level, former South Melbourne junior Skapetis can play for both countries without being committed to either until he makes a senior appearance in a FIFA-recognised tournament.

“I am glad I’ve been called up by Australia and I’ll be out to impress,” he told SBS’s Dave Lewis.

“But I also have the option of Greece and I certainly won’t turn my back on them. That said my heart does lie with Australia because it’s where I was born and raised. Australia is certainly my first preference at this stage.”

Greece has invited Skapetis to play for the under 20’s team, and was intended to play for them in August but didn’t eventuate.

The 18-year-old striker has captained QPR to the U-18 divisional final last season, scoring the winner and a new one year deal for the team.
