Blue and white was the unofficial dress code of the evening honouring the Greek Independence Day at Brisbane’s Greek club, with Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, stating honoured to join in celebrations.
“It’s an honour to celebrate this significant milestone with Queensland’s Greek community with music and dance, food and wine, and family, friendship, and faith,” Ms Palaszczuk wrote on a Facebook post.
The State Premier attended the event along with second generation Greek Australian Charis Mullen (Naoumis), State Member for Jordan.
Also present was High Commissioner for Cyprus, Ms Martha Mavrommati who took to the stand to address attendees, while Ms Palaszczuk took the opportunity to thank Queensland’s Greek Australian community for their long standing contribution to the state.
The night was deemed a success, not least thanks to The Hellenic Dancers of the Greek Orthodox Community of St George who entertained the crowd with a spectacular show.
