Covid’s third wave in Greece is showing its full force with yet another 2,801 new coronavirus infections registered in the 24 hours to Saturday.
The National Public Health Organization (EODY) reported that only 4 of these were identified at entry points to the country.
For the past 7-day period, 83 infections are related to travel from abroad and 3,003 to other confirmed cases.
There were also 75 deaths reported on Saturday, bringing the total of pandemic victims to 8,833. Of these, 95.6 per cent had an underlying condition and/or were 70 years old.
As of latest available data, a total of 781 patients are on ventilators in hospitals, with a median age of 68 years, while Greek authorities announced a further 504 new Covid-19 hospitalisations were registered.
The average admission of patients with Covid-19 to hospitals over the last 7 days was 530.
Greece’s total number of confirmed coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic stands at 293,763, with 8,833 dead.
A total of 1,853 patients have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.
The median age of new infections is 44 years, while the median age of the deceased is 79.
