When the Socceroos are struggling to push through goals, their younger counterparts have had no such trouble. In the AFC under 16 Championship qualifiers this week, the young players managed to hit goal after goal against Macau in their second qualifying match, ending up with a whopping 14-1 score.

The Joeys completely controlled the match maintaining comfortably 80% possession of the ball and only needed to wait until the 4th minute before the first goal was scored.

Greek Australian and Powerful winger, Kosta Petratos added to the Joeys tally in the 22nd minute, after some sensational possession play found the youngster on the edge of the 18 yard box. He scored the fifth goal and the second last goal of the match. Just before half time the team had managed to push past eight goals, and their opponents only one. IN the 63rd minute, Danny Kim scored a heart stopping goal from 35 yards out, and in the next 20 minutes, the five goals managed to get past the hapless Macau defence.

Joeys Head Coach Tony Vidmar was ecstatic over the team’s ability to create one chance after another.

“Today was another good performance from the team where again being disciplined and structured set us up creating a lot of good chances,” he said.

“A big plus was that we were ruthless in front of goals which is what we wanted”.

The Joeys also secured a fantastic win against Taipei, thrashing them 7-0 in their opening qualifying match this week.

The Joeys play Hong Kong on Friday.
