Today marks Good Friday in the Orthodox calendar.

On Holy Friday the Orthodox Church commemorates the death of Christ on the Cross and observes the unnailing of Christ from the Cross and the placement of His body in the tomb.

After last year’s ordeal that resulted in the closure of churches, many Greek-Australians are able to celebrate back in their churches like it’s 1999 (or 2019).

Displayed above is a photo sent by our reader Irene Reni of the epitaphio or ‘tomb’ decorated by three generations of ladies of Thornbury’s Saint George’s Church.
