South Oakleigh Secondary College Students elected as school leaders were honoured by Mayor of Monash, Paul Klisaris and three Melbourne Storm players at a special school assembly on last Tuesday.
Students elected to serve on the Student Representative Council were acknowledged by Klisaris while the Year 10 students elected as peer support leaders to mentor Year Seven students were acknowledged by Storm players John Wagner, Peter Robinson and Robert Kearns.
In an inspirational address on leadership, Klisaris told students that they were not much different in their leadership roles from politicians. He underscored the need for leaders to inspire people and work together for the common good.
“You guys are the future. Never be afraid to have a go,” he said.
Nicole Kakanis, Sotirios Kaplanis, Anthony Sakeslidis, Chris Lambas, Diamond Terzoglou, Peter McKinnon and Annabel Tolios, the Vice-Captain at the school, were elected as SRC Representatives.
Christina Loukos, Ernie Laskaris, Stefanos Tzorbatzoglou, George Tzintzis, Pamela Alexopoulos, Thana Karamanis, Val Aristodemou, Nathan Markadas and Sarah Psihogios were chosen as Peer Support Leaders.
The assembly closed with an impressive hip hop performance from students including Ernie Laskaris and Christina Loukos, and a performance by the school rock band.
