Name

Alexander Karas, 24.

Your greatest achievements

Placing 3rd in the World Fitness Federation (WFF) Mr Universe bodybuilding competition in Germany and winning my first title at this year’s NABBA/WFF International Championships in Melbourne.

How did you get to where you are now

A lot of dedication and discipline was required to get to that point. I had to forgo a regular social life and regular eating habits.

Your greatest challenge

Having to deal with people constantly trying to bring you down and the negative social perception of my sport. It would often be easier to give up, but it’s never an option!

Your aspirations/goals for the future

My first goal would be to establish my professional career and start developing a professional development/training business in my spare time. I’d also like to win an Australian title in the next two to three years.

Best moment of your life

Graduating from university and my two trips to Greece over the last four years.

One word that describes you the best

Stubborn.

Persons you most admire and why

My parents who taught me values. They all made many sacrifices over time and I hope that I can repay them for these sacrifices.

Best thing about being Greek-Australian

Being brought up among the two cultures; the Australian lifestyle with Greek values. I also believe in being able to speak both languages.

If I could say anything to the Greek community…

Stick to your goals no matter what they are and don’t let anyone tell you it can’t be done; you can do anything you put your mind to.

Most embarrassing or funny Greek (family) moment

My family making all of my favourite foods and force-feeding me to try and fatten me up after competitions. Apparently I was too skinny!

Favourite place to go or hang out at

Probably Melissa in Templestowe or Bodyworld Gym in Camberwell.

Favourite Greek food

All of it, but if I had to pick one it would definitely be pastissio for regular food and bougatsas for dessert.

I can’t live without…

Food, my phone, car, computer and gym.

If I was Kevin Rudd for a day I would…

Resign and put the Liberals back in power (controversial I know).
