Cypriot Kyriakos Ioannou jumped 2.29 meters to win the high jump silver medal in the final of the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Turin on Saturday night.

Another Hellenic high-jumper Costas Baniotis broke his personal best jump, jumping 2.29 meters to finish in sixth place.

The meet was his first major tournament.

Voula Papachristou smashed her personal best in triple jump to qualify to the final.

The 20-year-old athlete had her first jump at 14.47 meters, easily passing the mark for the final that stood at 14.15 metres and qualifying as second.

Her best performance this season until Friday had been 14.16 metres. This new one is the fourth in Europe this year.

“I cannot believe it yet, to be honest. I felt good, I was relaxed and entered the qualification with determination. I will try to do my best in the final.”
