Cabaret is kicking goals in Adelaide for the Fringe Festival! Award-winning Greek Australian cabaret performer Nikki Aitken is creating a buzz with her hilarious new production, Cabaret Alive and Kicking which ends next week.

“I love being part of the Fringe Festival, which is part of the content of this actual show. It’s such an exciting time of the year!” Nikki Aitken

Nikki Aitken, who is half Greek, is emerging into a cabaret diva. She is a singer, songwriter and fully fledged character comedian.

This remarkable Greek Aussie talent weaves sassy musical theatre performance, storytelling and character comedy all into one priceless show after the next.

Last year’s The Attack of the 40 Foot Wedge won Nikki accolades and awards including Best Comedy Show from the Adelaide Theatre Guide and Special Commendation for Excellence in original song-writing from the Fringe Festival.

The Age highlights that Nikki possesses ‘Booming pipes and impressive characterizations’.

Neos Kosmos caught up with Nikki and asked her how she feels to be back at the Fringe, “I love being part of the Fringe Festival, which is part of the content of this actual show. It’s such an exciting time of the year!”

As a proud Adelaideian Nikki said, “With so many artists from Australia and around the world coming into our town, it makes Adelaide seem a very different place. As the largest festival of its kind in Australia, it makes me proud to be an artist who lives in Adelaide; it’s a wonderful networking opportunity together with simply seeing so many wonderful shows at any time of the day!”

Nikki decided to pursue a career in cabaret because, “it seemed natural” to her. Having originally trained operatically, she furthered her studies into acting, musical theatre and jazz.

Cabaret, as it became evident to Nikki is “really the only genre that includes all of these styles with ease, it also gives me that chance to write songs and have a use for them.”

Cabaret Alive and Kicking celebrates cabaret through luscious renditions and hilarious characterisations.

Nikki will bring to life inspired interpretations of songs by Stephen Sondheim, Jason Robert Brown and even comedy genius, Mel Brooks.
