The Australian Macedonian Advisory Council (AMAC) is looking for new members to join their renewed and restructured committe.

AMAC Chariman Nick Koukouviatkis stepped down and Con Kouremenos was appointed in his place.

The shakeup of AMAC’s executive committee has seen the average age of members dropping to 30 years old.

The organisation is trying to focus on an even more active lobbying role on the issue of Macedonia.

“We want to ensure that the Australian government continues to use the UN sanctioned name of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) until a mutually acceptable solution is reached between Greece and FYROM,” Mr Kouremenos said.

However, he clarified that AMAC has not taken an official stance on a possible name solution because “AMAC exists purely in order to correct any falsifications that may have been made regarding Macedonia, while maintaining our Greek Macedonian heritage and culture.”

The rest of AMAC’s Executive Committe includes: Vice-Chairman – Peter Jasonides; Executive Officer – Paul Kiritsis; Secretary – James Papadopoulos; Treasurer – Ian Pelekanakis; Vice-Secretary – Jenny Stamatelos and Vice-Treasurer – George Liavas.
