Cypriot gymnast Chrystalleni Trikomiti’s dual gold medals for the rope and the ribbon events in the gymnastics saw Cyprus end the Commonwealth Games with a tally of twelve medals.
Trikomiti also won a bronze in the overall rhythmic gymnastics.
Trikomiti was proud of her achievement: “Many moments of competition, many moments of hard work. I thought I was going to cry because I had worked so hard for this gold,” said Chrystalleni.
Cypriot duo George Achilleos and Andreas Ηasikos have claimed two more medals for Cyprus at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Achilleos and Ηasikos, who won the gold medal in the men’s Skeet Pairs on Sunday, took the silver and bronze medals in the men’s Singles Skeet with a total of 144 and 143 points respectively, earlier this week.
The 29-year-old Achilleos, who holds Games records in both qualifications and finals, had to be satisfied with the silver medal after losing in a shoot-off to Richard Brickell of England, while Chasikos managed to beat Drew Christie of Scotland and Englishman Clive Bramley in the bronze medal shoot-off.
Last week 18-year-old Demetris Krasias won Cyprus’ first gold medal of the Commonwealth Games, with a brilliant performance in the artistic gymnastics Horizontal Bar competition.
The judges were left in no doubt after seeing the teenager’s performance, as he racked up a total of 13.900 points late on Friday night.
Two Thursdays ago, Herodotos Georgallas captured bronze in the Rings final.
On Tuesday night, 20-year-old Marianna Zachariadi won the silver medal in the women’s Pole Vault with her season-best jump of 4.40 metres at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on the final day of the athletics events.
“I do not know if I should be happy or sorry,” said Zachariadi after she finished on the same height as gold medal winner Alana Boyd of Australia but lost out on the top spot on the podium on the countback rule.
Nevertheless, Zachiardi’s performance is another indicator of her talent, as she also won the silver medal at the Mediterranean Games last summer in Pescara.
Also on Tuesday, Zacharias Arnos finished eighth in the men’s Triple Jump with a leap of 16.12 metres, which he achieved in the second round, while Erini Panteli and Constantina Pratsi ended up sixth in the women’s Pairs 10M Air Pistol finals with a total score of 739-16x at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range.
