Not even rain could dampen the enthusiasm as thousands of Sydneysiders gathered in Darling Harbour to celebrate the weekend festivities of the 29th Sydney Greek Festival.
The festival made sure it stayed true to Hellenisism and the crowd took Hellenic pride to the next level as they all danced off the loukoumathes and bougatsa.
Even though the Sunday rain persisted, people still marched with pride for Greek Independence Day, with each person powering through the cold and drizzle. Nothing could stand in any Greeks way as not even the rain could literally rain on their parade. The crowd just opened their umbrellas and watched the main stage of dancing, poem recitals and theatre.
Comedy great George Kapiniaris kept the crowd’s mind off the rain and on laughing as he joked his way as MC for the day. Vasilis Lekkas made a guest appearance at the festival after coming off the back of such a successful Sydney show both Saturday and Sunday night.
