Mike Zambidis has continued his sparkling 2011 form with victory at the W5 Grand Prix KO Tournament held in Moscow, Russia, sending a warning shot to Australia fighter John Wayne Parr who is next up for Zambidis.

The Greek kickboxing legend entered last Saturday’s four-man 71 kg tournament as the clear favourite and did not disappoint his fans. The semi-final saw Zambidis tackle Ukraine’s Enriko Gogokhia in a bout that was closer than most had predicted. Gogokhia surprisingly sent the match to an extension round before “Zambo” was declared the winner by unanimous decision.

After winning his own semi-final, Dzhabar Askerov was waiting for “Iron” Mike in the final with hopes of an upset. However, the UAE fighter was no match for the Greek, as Zambidis went on to claim the win and tournament in a three round unanimous decision victory. The success in Russia brings Zambidis to 3-0 this year, having defeated Ali Gunyar by unanimous decision in Athens on March 12th. The strong start to 2011 has seen a continued resurgence for the Greek dynamo and now has eyes firmly set on Australian shores.

Melbourne fans will get to see Zambidis on May 27, when he battles Parr in a much anticipated rubber match
