Little Big Shots – Melbourne’s International Film Festival for Kids – returns to ACMI to get kids get in front of and behind the camera to tell their stories about cultural diversity.

The film festival which is for kids aged two to 15, will showcase 80 short films from 20 different countries. The festival will add the new component of a documentary filmmaking workshop called Kaleidoscope. ACMI will be inviting kids’ families from right across Melbourne to be a part of it. Kids are encouraged to bring along something that represents their family and cultural background to feature on-screen.

The resulting documentary will be a fun snapshot of multicultural Melbourne, made by and starring this city’s kids. Kaleidoscope is a free event, proudly supported by the Victorian Multicultural Commission, and will take place on Sunday 12 June between 1.00 pm and 4.00 pm in the Little Big Shots Festival Club (ground floor, ACMI). No bookings are required and kids and families are encouraged to drop in throughout the afternoon.

Little Big Shots is a five-day celebration of movies made for kids, about kids and sometimes even by kids, and screens films that are guaranteed to make kids laugh, whoop, think and create. With 10 world premieres, over 40 Australian premieres and 13 films made by kids themselves, there’s certain to be something new and exciting to enthral and engage kids of all ages; from what it’s like to grow up in the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, to the challenges faced by a seven year-old blind boy, and how to best help out your parents when they turn into beasts.
