Passenger ferry tickets should become a little cheaper after Greek Parliament voted through an amendment last Tuesday that removes third-party levies. Attica Group, Aegean Speed Lines and Hellenic Seaways announced that they would be cutting their fares for journeys to and from Greek islands by between 8 and 10 per cent.

A levy of 6.5 per cent had been imposed on ferry tickets until now so money could be set aside for a seamen’s fund that provided social security cover for sailors who suffered accidents while working. A levy that applied to ferries that sailed to and from Crete has also be scrapped.
