South Melbourne enters the Singapore cup for the second year running playing against the Japanese club Albirex Nigata who compete in the S League on Sunday June 12. The winner of this match will come back in September to play the Quarter final and semi-final with the final on 5 November.

80,000 Singapore Dollars is up for grabs for the winner of a prestige South Eastern Cup competition. President Leo Athanasakis had this to say about his club’s involvement in the Singapore Cup:

“We are very excited to be invited back again to Singapore which is a vindication of our impact last time we came and competed against full professional teams. This is another example of the perks of playing for a club like South Melbourne FC and when we get our brand new redeveloped stadium back next year its going to be amazing for the players, supporters and stakeholders of this famous and proud club.” Football Director Ange Dallas is wary of the clash against the Japenese outfit.

“What we know of Japanese football they are very fast, technical and disciplined. Our boys are very excited to have an opportunity to take on a professional team. The team is stronger this year and I feel very confident of getting a positive result with Eddie Krnecevic at the helm.”
