After almost eight years as the AFL’s Multicultural Football Project Co-ordinator, Nick Hatzoglou resigned this week looking for greater career opportunities. Nick was responsible for promoting Australian football to people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

In a joint initiative the AFL and AFL Victoria established the Multicultural Football Program in partnership with the Department for Victorian Communities to develop opportunities to engage people from diverse cultural backgrounds and broaden the participation and supporter base for Australian Football in general.

The primary purpose of the Multicultural Football Program was to put newly arrived cultural groups in touch with Australian Football by allowing them the opportunity to attend an AFL game as quickly as possible in order to assist with their local customs orientation.

His overall experience was gained within the multicultural sector, local government and Cricket Victoria. He also has a Bachelor of Applied Science with a Post Graduate Certificate in Event Management, and served as a Member of the Community Advisory Committee at SBS. Hatzoglou’s position has been superceeded by the AFL’s National Multicultural Co-ordinator’s job which was recently filled by Ali Fahour, who was the Essendon Football Club’s Corporate Partners Executive.
