Support for veteran journalist is in overdrive after news that he was sacked over a text message by Sky News. The alleged sacking came over on-air comments he made about a Chinese man.

Sky News CEO Angelos Frangopoulos told Herald Sun there was no text message referring to an email saying he was sacked via email.

“I spoke directly to John over the phone to tell him his contract would not be renewed. I thanked him for his contribution to Sky News over the years,” he said.

Greek Australian newsreader Mangos has unreservedly apologised for the comments he made on June 3 on a story of a Chinese man who won the lottery on Sky News. The Chinese man chose to wear a mask to remain anonymous while collecting his prize.
