Greek Cup winners AEK Athens have signed young Greek Australian footballer Paul Katsetis.

The players agent, Makis Zapatinas, told Greek reporters in Athens that 16-year-old Katsetis, from Sydney, will be travelling to Greece early next month to sign a contract with the Athenian club. “Paul will fly to Greece in early July where he will undergo the necessary medical examinations before signing his first full professional contract,” Zapatinas said.

The agent also noted that other Greek and European clubs had shown interest in Katsetis, but claimed AEK was always the front runner to sign the young left-footed footballer. News of the signing pleased supporters of AEK, who despite the clubs current financial turmoil, are hoping that their team can continue by signing a host of young talented footballers.

On various social network sites, supporters showed their enthusiasm by the signing with various posts. “Bravo, these are the kind of players our club needs to be acquiring,” wrote a supporter with the username Tigris. Another user, AEKnyc, wrote, “I just watched two clips of this young player on YouTube, he may not be ready for first team action just yet, but with the right training and conditions this kid has the talent to become a real star for AEK in the future.”
