The AFL has confirmed that six players tested positive to recreational drugs such as cocaine, amphetamines or cannabis in 2010.

One player is now on his second strike, while former Hawthorn player Travis Tuck who became the first to be suspended under the three strikes policy was one of the positive tests during last year. Adrian Anderson, the AFL’s Football Operations manager, said the results released this week indicate a big drop on the 14 positive tests in 2009 and proved the League’s policy of testing players in the on and off season was delivering results.

Players who test positive are targeted for testing on a regular basis but their identities are kept private until their third transgression. There were a total of 1,654 tests last year.
