The Victorian Government has announced this week the opening of a $1.1 million Unity through Partnership grants program.

The program “aims at bringing people together in celebrating what makes us unified Victorians of diverse background,” Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship Nicholas Kotsiras told Neos Kosmos.

The main purpose of the grants are to fund original and exciting events such as major multicultural festivals and events in Melbourne and regional Victoria.

“These grants are about using our traditions in arts, food and music to celebrate a society based on mutual understanding,” said Minister Kotsiras. “I would love to see diverse groups working towards a program which is fresh, engaging and innovative.” The grant applications close on Tuesday 23 August for events to be held between September 2011 and July 2012.
