For the next generation of Greek kids, apart from the odd annual Greek festival and Greek school, they really don’t have a place to celebrate their heritage. DJ Krazy Kon from Krazy Promotions and Billy Billiris from Fistpump Entertainment saw a gap in this market and decided to create an under 18s event, modelled on his highly successful Greek nights, and teach these kids once and for all that “Greek is cool”.
Aimed at third and fourth generation Greek Australians under 18, DJ Krazy Kon said the event will feature himself playing a one-hour DJ set, Nick Giannopoulos doing a one-hour spot and sticking around to meet the kids, but also talented underage Greek DJs and dance crews.
“We need to teach the next phase of Greek kids that are coming through that Greek is the way to go – whether it’s arts, music, fashion or culture. I think they have to grow up knowing they are Greeks and seeing it and being entertained by Greeks. “I see a lot of these kids are getting into house music or R’n’B music and I think why? They should be getting into Greek music,” DJ Krazy Kon told Neos Kosmos.
Friends and family who are parents pointed out to DJ Krazy Kon that their kids didn’t have anywhere to go, and that he is only catering for the overage market. So he almost made it his mission to do something about it. “I knew it was a good opportunity for the younger generation, so I discussed it with Nick [Giannopoulos] and we decided to go ahead with it. Nick feels strongly about this issue too and as soon as I pitched the idea to him and discussed it with him he said yes straight away. He is really excited about it.”
He said the response so far to this event has “been phenomenal” and knows that it’s just going to get bigger and better. With a huge lighting and sound show, this event is going to be something memorable for the younger generation who get to see the best of the King of Mykonos and King of Greek DJs.
