As the only nominee for the Senate vacancy left by Helen Coonan, it’s looking likely that New South Wales Liberal Party president Arthur Sinodinos will cruise right into the role.

Sinodinos – the former chief of staff of then Australian Prime Minister John Howard – could become Senator as early as next week seeing he is the only candidate for this role. All he needs is his nomination to be formally endorsed by a joint session of the New South Wales state parliament, who are sitting this week.
