Sydney Olympic have defeated fierce rivals Sydney United 2-0, in the NSWPL Grand Final at Belmore Sports Ground tonight

The match started 35 minutes late due to a late crowd, but the crowd proved bigger than any NSL match ever did, let alone the crowds now at A-League soccer. The crowd was over 10,000 people strong.

Two goals scored by Alex Smith in the opening five minutes of the final and then another later by Richie Luksic and the score was set. There was no coming back for United at this stage.

What was created tonight was an atmosphere often lacking in A-League football that was felt tonight through the crowds, the chanting and the emotion.
