The lower house of parliament has passed Australia’s Carbon Tax Bill enusring it will become law in a historic day for the Gillard government.

Even last minute efforts by the opposition couldn’t delay the passage of the bills, as the government passed all 18 pieces of legislation by a vote of 74 to 72 just before 10.00 am this morning.

Although, conservation groups around Austrlia have welcomed the Carbon Tax, this set of Bills have been both historic and controversial
as the government does its bit to establish the world’s most broadly based carbon pricing scheme.

The vote in the lower house was applauded by Labor MPs and watchers in the gallery. The Bill will go before Senate to be debated.
