The smashing success of the 4th Panhellenic Games, held in Darwin from September 29 to October 2, came to a close last Sunday night.
Victoria dominated the games winning both the men’s and women’s soccer finals, and placing second in basketball to a strong New South Wales side. The Victorian athletes also dominated track and field and swimming, bringing home plenty of gold medals.
Athlete Kasandra Hatzipantelis proved a highlight winning six gold, two silver and one bronze in various track and field events.
The games themselves provide a unique experience for Hellenic youth in Australia, as part of the Oceania, not only competing in athletic pursuits but also to represent and showcase their cultural identity.
