Right wing Popular Orthodox Rally (Laos) leader Yiorgos Karatzaferis has stormed out of the presidential mansion, before a scheduled meeting of party leaders Thursday night, because he believed the Greek government was “playing tactical games”.
Karatzaferis told journalists that he was “saddened that at such a critical moment [the Greek government] are playing tactical games at the expense of the president of the republic”. He also told journalists that any other decision other than having European Central Bank vice-president Lucas Papademos appointed prime minister would be a “half-baked solution”.
The meeting – which Communist Party leader Aleka Papariga and Radical Left Coalition (Syriza) leader said they would boycott – was held to secure the names of the new premier and cabinet but when Karatzaferis arrived, he was left waiting with party MP Makis Voridis and a top aide, former ambassador Yiorgos Yiorgiou. He said that President Karolos Papoulias, former-Greek PM George Papandreou and New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras were together in a room prompting the impression that they were strategising.
