The spirit of Christmas visited the elderly in Brunswick! Boys and girls from Alpha Children’s Centre brought Christmas cheer and joy to the world of the Australian-Greek Welfare Society’s (AGWS) Planned Activity Group.
Christmas carols, songs, games and dances — accompanied by a healthy dose of mischief from Alpha’s little elves — poured into the room where the senior citizens meet. Not only was there live entertainment, but the clock seemed to turn back as the elderly sung kalanda and other Christmas songs with the children- and even helped them to draw Santa!
The littlies visit was unexpected and took everyone by surprise, including AGWS CEO Ms Voula Messimeri-Kianidis. But who could resist Alpha’s elves? Mrs Messimeri-Kianidis took them to her office and showered them with treats and Christmas presents. In return they gave her hugs and smiles galore. One little boy offered her his reindeer’s ears in exchange for an extra lolly! The children left her office holding stars and Christmas decorations unaware that they had put stars in the hearts or our precious elderly. The presence of the kids lifted the spirits of all at the AGWS offices.
